Instruction Sheet No. 18EV

TIMER INSTRUCTIONS
The function of the timer assembly is to time the bail ears on the cans passing through the machine so that they line up with the holes in the labels. The can rolls through the labeler until it rests on the wheels in the timers. There it simply spins until the bail ear comes around and contacts a stop which throws it forward off the wheels and thereafter it continues on through the labeler timed so that the bail ear slips into the hole in the labels as they lay in the label bed.
Location marks appear on the carrier frame for the upper idler assemblies and on the can tracks for the timer assemblies for each different gallon label submitted to the factory at the time the labeler was built. Additional marks can be made as additional labels are used.
When setting up for any particular label see special Instruction Sheets in back of Instruction Book, and set timer and idler assemblies according to them.
When setting up for a new label which has not been indexed on the machine, note that it generally is a simple matter to reset the timers and idlers if the new label is fairly close to one already indexed. As an example, if the hole in a new label is 1/4" farther from the pick up end of the label than the previous one, move the timers ahead 1/4" and do likewise with the idler assemblies and the machine is ready. However it is wise to test a few cans through to check the accuracy and then after it is tested and proven, put new marks in the proper places for the new label.
Occasionally a new label needs to be applied which is opposite hand (the
under-lap is on the opposite end) and in that case it is necessary to change
the stop which the bail ear contacts to the opposite side of the timer and
then exchange the two timers. In that way, the stop is then on the opposite
side of the machine. It may also be necessary to move the rubber spacer rolls
at the inlet of the labeler to miss the ear and it will also be necessary
to punch new holes in the seaming pad under the apron.
