Paste Pot Instructions

LAP PASTE POT: The care of the lap paste pot is very important in order to assure an even and uninterrupted flow of paste to the labels. Keep the set of drive gears located at the top of the pot clean and well oiled at all times. If paste is allowed to collect on the teeth it will run in between the gears driving them apart and damaging the bearings of the shaft on which the gears are mounted.

At the end of a day’s run take the bottom pot off and pour the remaining paste back into the paste container. Fill the pot with water and mount it back on the machine. Run the machine for a full minute or more to loosen up the paste which still remains on the belt and around the scrapers. Remove the bottom pot and wipe dry. At the beginning of a day’s run apply a little water around the scraper until the parts work freely and the belt is free from it.

The care and setting of the scrapers for the various types of belts is very important. See Instruction Sheet 15 for rubber belt and 16 for wire belt.

In the case of the rubber belt be careful not to stretch it more than necessary since stretching will reduce the width of the belt and loss of traction on the drive wheels will result. Not only will traction be lost, but the slippage of the drive wheels will damage the belt. Instruction Sheet 15 should be studied carefully.

When using a wire belt the supply of paste can be regulated by the amount of stretching of the belt since more paste can be carried when the coils are apart than when they are close together and, conversely, for less paste decrease the tension. See Instruction Sheet 16.

To install new spring wire paste belts thread the belt through scraper hole, and screw connector half way in one end of the belt. Then count turns remaining on the connecting spring. Wind the spring belt back the number of turns counted. Then screw together. If not screwed together correctly, the belt will come apart when in operation.

When bead chain is used, since there is no stretch in it, a spring tension is necessary. As the chain wears it will increase the length. To bring the spring tension to the proper point, simply loosen the thumb screw on the paste arm and adjust. See Instruction Sheet 17.
